Lovelies,
Let me start by saying I do not reside in the USA. I’m Canadian and that’s where I currently live. I did, however, spend 4.5 years of my life in the USA and have many people that I love residing there still. I watched your election last week from behind my hands and, frankly, I’m horrified by the results. As people in the infertility community I hope you are, too. Because if there is one thing we know unequivocally about Trump it’s that he is not for women. He’s not for women’s rights, or pro choice, or abuse survivors. He’s not for equal pay, or equal treatment, or health reform. All of this leads me to believe that his presidency will be disastrous for infertility patients.
If he overturns Roe v Wade what is to stop the pro life coalition from pushing hard for the personhood bill… again. Which will, by its very nature, threaten reproductive medicine. Can’t do IVF or FET cycles if that ball of cells has the same rights as you. Without Roe v Wade in place they might have actual traction.
If he’s not going to fund birth control or abortions he is certainly not going to fund IVF. Pregnancy is an inconvenience you see so why would he help you get there?
He wants to defund Planned Parenthood, which is amazing and does many things, not the least of which is providing medically necessary abortions. Sometimes on this long infertility road unspeakable problems arise when you finally fall pregnant. I know many women who would have had no place to go to receive the medical care necessary to save them additional heart ache or physical harm when their pregnancy was not found to be compatible with life. What will happen to women who need these abortions in the future?
And finally, that military infertility treatment bill that resolve finally got passed? With Trumps disdain for the military and his lack of understanding of their sacrifice do you think he is going to keep programs like that open? I seriously doubt it.
I am sorry America. This is going to be a bleak 4 years. Hopefully, you find a way through it all.

I find it unfathomable that any woman out there voted for Trump, and yet we know that those women exist.
Mel,
Amen. Unfathomable… and yet… like 52% or something ridiculous.

It’s scary to watch, isn’t it? Many of us here are gearing up for battle to protect our rights and freedoms that have been hard won. Calling attention to these movements is key because otherwise the situation seems hopeless. It’s not, but the road ahead isn’t going to be easy. So what is needed most is raising the rally cry towards community and putting up a united front. Seeking to understand how we can come together. Because as President Obama and many others have said, Trump will be the next president of the U.S. And that affects more than just those who live in the U.S.
Cristy,
It certianly does… So I will join the rallying cry with a resounding “BAWKAWK!!”

It is terrifying… but please, let’s not write off an entire 4 years just yet. They will be a challenge to be sure. I wasn’t a huge Clinton supporter (although I was in the past) but I too don’t understand how any woman could vote for Trump. Thank you for your caring words and support for those of us “down south”. xo
Lori,
True, 4 years is a long ass time. One can always hope he’ll be impeached before long. lol

From a fellow Canadian…it’s just gross to think that people voted for someone like that and are actually happy about it.
DeathStar,
Agreed.Truly, truly gross.

I still don’t fully understand how anyone could have voted for him! It’s definitely not going to be good for women.
Dubliner,
Sad sad times ahead.
