Lovelies,
I have to say the looks I get when I say I’m “not going back to work next month” because I’m a writer and a blogger and I work from home are fascinating.
Look 1: From most of the other moms in the mommy group who are needing to figure out daycare and work schedules.
Look 2: From moms who don’t know me. “Wow, you are so interesting!” They probably think I make money too or something.
Look 3: From my mom. Surveys the disaster zone that is my house… “You getting a lot of work done?” No, not really.
Honestly, I am so fortunate to be able to not have a full-time go-to-the-office job that I need to return to. I’m not ready yet. Working from home is such a blessing. If I ever need to speak to anyone about anything or have any meetings, I can just give people a call or use something like the Agora.io to have a video call. I can stay in the comfort of my own home and focus on my work, doing things on my own schedule. I haven’t been brave enough to work abroad, as so many people who are now based at home have done – check out this page for more information. But I guess my situation is different because I have a family and roots here. Nevertheless, as good as working from home is… working from home with a toddler is an exercise in insanity. It’s a miracle this blog is still running and that everyone in my house is still alive. Not to mention that I totally sent a book off to a publisher! *pats self on the back*.
I’ve had to make sure that I plan well in advance for everything, I’ve also had to make sure that my writing spot is perfect for me. I want to limit any distractions that I might have. I’ve even invested in buying myself something like these high quality filing cabinets just to help me when it comes to keeping my ideas in check. Honestly, I think this set up will work great for me since I’m aware that I can get distractions.
Working from home can be difficult as there are often a lot of distractions, but it’s important to ignore them and continue on with your work. I found that working from home was difficult at first because I wasn’t getting any work done. One of my friends actually told me that could’ve been caused by the internet connection in my home. She said that working from home does usually require a good internet connection, so she recommended that I look into a satellite internet service instead. Since she recommended that to me, the internet is much better and I’m able to be more productive now. I think a good internet connection is crucial when working from home.

Congrats on writing a book and sending it off! Time to celebrate!
Nora,
Thank you! Sending it feels like a big accomplishment and also terrifying! Hope they like it!

That’s so cool you sent a book off to a publisher, best of luck with that! 🙂
Dubliner,
I think so too! Big step in the right direction towards being a published author.
