Hey Lovelies,

It has appeared again, Canadian Infertility Awareness Week (CIAW) is upon us! When all of us in the Great White North pause in our busy schedules to think about the 1 in 6 Canadians who are affected by infertility. That’s right- 1 in 6. You’re not wrong if you are wondering if that’s higher than the number for the States. It is! In the USA- 1 in 8 / in Canada- 1 in 6. Which, in my mind, means we in Canada should totally be better at raising the alarm about these diseases! I don’t think we’re there yet, I think a lot of people don’t even know that this week exists, so I make it my mission to be incredibly loud each CIAW in order to offset that dearth of knowledge. At least for my own social circle.

Looking for ways to get involved? Here are some things going on during CIAW that you can get into!

  1. Donate to Fertility Matters: this is our national infertility association and funding them helps improve the lives of patients going through infertility. You can also become a member!
  2. Join a local movement: contact your local clinic and support group to get involved in any local activities they are putting on.
  3. Speak out: This CIAW’s theme is “Out in the open” so do it! Put yourself out there! Post about your journey on your social media. Share stories about other people’s struggle. Take the message to your people that infertility affects 1 in 6 Canadians.

Awesome! May the CIAW god’s smile upon us this year and help support those of us traveling this road. Check back on Thursday for a piece on what being “out” with my infertility means to me.

XOXXO,

The Chicken
