Hey lovelies,

I have a confession to make: I am “that mom”. You know when people, usually groups of women, are gossiping and someone will eventually roll their eyes and exclaim, “Ugh, she’s ‘that mom’.”

“That mom” is a catch all phrase that can be invoked to refer to many different kinds of moms: Helicopter moms, PTA moms, hot mess moms, best-friend to the kids moms, crafty moms, yoga moms, crunchy granola moms, bad ass moms … you name it. “That mom” covers it all.

I have accepted that my personality and my brand of parenting will not be for everyone. How could it be? I have decide to really just embrace my title as “that mom”… and what kind of “that mom” am I? I’m the dreaded, outgoing, try-hard, Pinterest mom. UUUUUGH. I know ;).

I enjoy doing crafts with my kids (up to this point the ones I nannied and cousins that would sit long enough for it). I like making experiences for them. I like to try inventive new things like turning a toilet paper tube into a house for mice or using cut up pool noodles in the bath. I take pictures of EVERYTHING. The better to post up on social media, you see.

I will probably be the mom that brings an annoyingly fun snack when it’s our snack day. Everyone will roll their eyes and bitch that I have too much time or money or spunk… someone should really punch me in the face, yadda, yadda.

Perf! Thanks for noticing.

Anyone else? What kind of “that mom” do you foresee yourself becoming? Because really, we are all somebodies “that mom”.

Something I’ll never be accused of! And I don’t think I’m “that aunt” but maybe just because I’ve never had the chance.

I guess people worry about what “that mom” says about the type of mom they are. I remember my mother hating the competition (and subsequent judgement) with her sisters-in-law, and being creative in finding ways to avoid competing (e.g. she always let us to decorate the Christmas cake, so that she wasn’t part of the competition about whose was the best, and we loved being allowed to do it).

As long as there is no judgement in return, then do what feels right for you. And enjoy!

      Mali,
I refuse to worry about it. Or at least do my best to shrug that worry off. We are all unique people and I’m going to try not to let that drive me nuts! lol

I don’t know if I’ll ever be called “that mom.” I’m good at flying under the radar. Though I’m aware that the vet has me labeled as “that woman” because I can be a little intense about the guinea pig.

      Mel,
Ha! I’m trying to imagine what being ‘intense about the guinea pig’ might mean, mostly visions of flapping arms and talking about how it’s not pooping right. I need to practice my ability to fly under the radar. I think my invisibility cloak is broken.

I don’t know many parents at all so I don’t know what they might think….but I think of myself as laid back mom! Some of the nicest things I’ve heard about myself as a teacher are that I’m calm and “spread sanity.” I would love to be that kind of mom!

      Turtle,
Jesus, Id like to be accused, even once, of spreading sanity! It sounds lovely! Unfortunately, that’s not really my MO. I’m pretty intense lol.
